All my work within my practice is made by hand.

Amy Devlin

The work of Belfast artist Amy Devlin revolves around the theme of gender and consumerism. Critiquing how capitalistic corporations use a woman’s figure as a marketing tool to sell commodities. Aiming to subvert within capitalism limited portrayals of women. The Housewife and The Sex Object.

I am an Irish artist currently residing in Belfast, Northern Ireland.  I graduated my BA Honours in 2019 and my MFA in 2022 at Ulster university. Currently, my practice focuses on the theme of gender and consumerism explored through the mediums of collage and stop motion. All my work within my practice is made by hand. This tactility is central to my process as it allows me to work instinctively. I never start with an outcome in mind. This may seem unorthodox. However, I believe this way of working creates an energy that naturally brings the work together and prevents the work from becoming repetitive and stale.
