Medusa represents Philosophy, beauty and art. Considered to be ugly the myth tells if you looked at her you turned to stone. Here Jennifer highlights and questions the idea of the traditional gaze in art. Medusa seduces you on her bed but her eyes do not exist. You cannot look in her eyes and are free to look at her body. Here the female nude is reduced to a symbol of her body, something we have become accustomed to and rarely question in contemporary culture. Although symbolic with the head of Medusa ,Jennifer uses subtle images of snakes as a symbol of rebirth and transformation.
