This drawing was done following a residency at the Heinrich Boll Cottage on Achill. These enormous imposing cliffs sit at the end of a beautiful beach at Keel, on the island. I had been examining the effects of coastal erosion and how the sea is slowly eating into our coastline. I had focused mainly on the impact on sand dunes, but I was particularly taken with these cliffs on Achill. There was something quite mystical and spiritual about them, and I spent a lot of time drawing and sketching them, and wondering how long they could withstand the advancing sea.
