Reiteration: a study on the emptiness of negative spaces and coping with trauma through repetitive, neurotic acts. This work is an attempt to delve into and map aspects of my own psyche in relation to childhood trauma. It addresses the way that materiality and process can be used to explore the permeating effects of childhood trauma throughout oneβs life. In my focus on sculpture, the contact I have with my media has become a metaphor for the exploration of my own mind. The act of creating work inspired by the experience of trauma turns that experience into a physical object, which makes the experience easier to comprehend, and hack away at.
