This painting is a combination of imagery. Its central form is inspired by the Seven Sacraments series by Nicholas Poussin, that are held in the National Gallery of Scotland.
The red robe is now bereft of its figure and flipped upside-down, resembling the form of a distorted tulip or some glowing suspended fabric. It has been overlaid by dark shapes, drawings from a residency in the Tux Vally, Austria.
