Figure skaters I (Russia Series)

This painting is based on the front-page image of Soviet ice-skaters in 1969 in the weekly magazine Ogonek (Little Flame). The figures are carefully rendered in black and white dots, mimicking the off-set printing technique use to reproduce such images. Sport was one bright spot in the Soviet Union and an area where excellence was achieved, particularly in winter sports. The painting tries to capture the exhilaration of the skaters.
