Alban Eiler

By Lelia Henry – View Artist’s Profile ➤

The Celtic Year was divided into four quarters, each of which was divided by solstices and equinoxes, known as the Four Albans. March 21st marks the first day of Spring. Alban Eiler, meaning ‘Light of the Earth‘ marks the day when day and night are of equal length, and heralded the time for crops to be sown. Equinoxes were seen as a time of transition, and were considered by the Druids to be a particularly potent time for magic.
