Believe it or not, this painting started out as a careful rendition of the page below from the Soviet weekly Nedelya (The Week). Published in 1988 during the Gorbachev perestroika years, it shows an animated Lenin in 1920 haranguing his audience. As the painting progressed, the image of Lenin became more and more covered in paint, to the point where he disappeared, but his legacy remains.
