And Yet a Trace of the True Self Exists in the False Self / Circle of Life refers to a photoshop image series in which a number of sequential images depict the evolution of a given subject in a comical way.

The meme is often accompanied by text reading “and yet a trace of the true self exists in the false self” highlighting the cyclical nature of the given evolution.

The work was created as a response to a first encounter with this meme via reddit. The poignant visualisation of a domestic, modern day, dinosaur and the many ways that their existence is linked with life and death that came before them, and is facing them now.

As dino nuggets.
Or, a chicken flesh carcass
wrapped in cellophane
made of their ancestral remains.

It was in kindergarten that a pact was made between two friends to become vegetarians on their 12th birthdays. After nine years, Katrīna made the transition to veganism, and this lifestyle choice has actively informed the work that she makes ever since. Thus, her work is political in nature, as is her existence – a queer feminist who lives with chronic pain. Art as activism is the main motivation for her practice. Expressing her concerns with global issues, which are affected by society on an individual scale.
