After a surprisingly sunny and warm first en plein air expedition of the year, a bitter cold arrived the very next day. Struggling to stay warm, I abandoned the painting process rather quickly. My favourite oil paints turned to hardened lumps of butter that I struggled to command, with the fingertips of my hands and feet mercilessly losing sensation. Local cats stopped by in turn, to observe my failing efforts of capturing this naked vegetation by a partially frozen ditch, in the Jelgava municipality of Latvia.
