Elated by a first sunny day of the new year, a venture outdoors to capture the waking moment of nature in spring yielded not only the very first en plain air experience of the season, but also provided an opportunity to explore a new locale. Amongst the flat horizon of the fields, an encounter with a gathering of trees near a river drew my eye. Audruve (Lithuanian: Audruvė) is a left-bank tributary of the Vircava River in Latvia (Jelgava municipality) and Lithuania (Šiauliai county). It begins in Lithuania in the Gatauči seņūnija. It flows northwards along the Zemgale plain. The basin is long and narrow, the riverbed is regulated for most of its course, except for the lower section from Sesavmuiža. This experience lasted for about 4 hours and was a joy, especially as I used my favourite oil paint set of rich colours.
