Anecdotes Issue 04 is here. Nua Collective’s seasonal art publication returns for Autumn 2026 with 68 pages of artist essays, personal reflections and contemporary artworks. Available in digital and printed editions, this issue explores place, memory, experimentation and the unexpected connections that shape creative practice.
Anecdotes is a space to pause, reflect and look beyond the finished work. Through the voices of our international collective, each edition brings readers closer to the experiences, questions and discoveries behind the art.
Place, memory and unexpected connections
In Issue 04, a walk home becomes the starting point for Charys Wilson’s installation 3 in the morning, as the shadow of a flag opens up a different way of seeing a familiar symbol. Deirdre Burke reflects on painting the Western Australian landscape, where encounters with wildlife and questions of environmental change find their way into her work.
Memory takes other forms in Debbie Hickey’s photography and Mark Firehammer’s reflections on songwriting. For Firehammer, writing a novel offers the distance needed to recognise connections across forty years of songs. Elsewhere, Kaili Woop embraces the play, experimentation and happy accidents of gelliprinting, while Josh Stein’s The Giving Project considers what happens when art is given freely.
Across painting, installation, photography, printmaking and writing, these contributions invite us to stay curious about what art can reveal—and what the process of making can change.
