The circle is a very powerful symbol in many cultures. Like the hand drawn ensō in Zen, this series of drawings considers the quiet form of the circle for contemplation and as a representation of the vast universe we occupy. The drawings in charcoal were worked meditatively. They show the slow opening of a portal with organic fingerlike protrusions suggesting the fieriness of life here on earth. These drawings ask us to move past our own awareness to consider the beyond human and the beauty of existence. As we live in fast paced times, the drawings act as an anecdote, providing a space for reflection about the whole and the opening to possibility.
