The circle as a universal symbol of totality, wholeness, the infinite, and eternity, as well all cyclic movement, is the basis for this piece – similarly as On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life published on the 24th of November in 1859 by Charles Darwin, is considered to be the foundation of evolutionary biology. Through a monoprint technique a variety of invasive and native flower species of Latvia are preserved in a superficial manner. In lieu of an artist’s signature there is a hand impression of the maker, much less original in contemporary times than the ancient stencils of handprints in cave paintings. Somewhat inspired by a personal experience of comparing palm sizes at a zoo exhibit for primates. Entrapped in a much derivative context is a reference to a contemporary vegan activist, hiding among a call back to a popular 90s cartoon.
